Eagles Split Monday Doubleheader With Champion Christian

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - The Williams baseball team split their doubleheader on Monday at Champion Christian College. The Eagles took game one 8-3 and dropped game two 4-0. The Eagles are now 21-26 overall.

Game One

The Eagles took an early lead when they plated two run in the second inning. Cole Manning and Coltin Weldon hit back-to-back RBI doubles. Then in the third inning, Garrison Keene hit a RBI double to make it a 3-0 Eagles lead. The Tigers tied the game with three runs in the fourth inning. The Eagles immediately responded by retaking the lead in the fifth when Jake Hutson hit a RBI single. Williams added on with three runs in the seventh as Blake Simmons hit a RBI single, Manning was walked with the bases loaded, and Sam Philley hit a RBI single. 

Jolby Jones got the start on the mound and pitched 4.0 innings. He gave up three runs off six hits, walked three and struck out two. Alex O'Brien pitched 1.0 inning of relief and gave up one hit and walked one. Blaine Wood pitched 1.0 inning of relief and struck out one. Eric Tolar pitched 1.0 inning of relief and gave up one hit. 

Game Two

Williams didn't have a great offensive performance in game two as they only notched three hits in the game. 

Wood got the start on the mound and gave up two runs off six hits and struck out four. Jimmy Watson pitched 1.0 inning of relief and gave up one run off four hits. Blake Simmons pitched 1.0 inning of relief and gave up one run off two hits and struck out two.

The Eagles will host the Tigers for another doubleheader matchup tomorrow at Shell Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
