Eagles Drop Game One of Series to Lyon

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The Williams baseball team dropped their first game of the series to the Lyon Scots on Friday afternoon, 18-8. The Eagles are now 17-18 overall and 3-7 in conference play.

The Eagles plated a run in the first to take the lead, but the Scots tied it in the second. Williams retook the lead in the bottom of the second with two runs, but again the Scots responded with two runs the following inning to tie the game at 3. The Eagles retook the lead with two runs in the fourth, but Lyon responded with four runs the next inning to take their first lead of the game in the fifth inning. The Eagles were able to get a run back in sixth, but Lyon put up another four runs in the seventh to furthur expand their lead. The Eagles got a couple runs back in the bottom of the seventh to trail 11-8, but the Scots plated two runs in the eighth and five runs in the ninth to solidify their win. 

Isaac Williams and Nicholas Jones led the team with 2 RBIs each, while Dezmond Cordova, Nick Allred, and Palmer Campbell all collected one. 

Spencer Burnham got the start on the mound and pitched 4.2 innings. He gave up seven runs off eight hits, walked three, and struck out five. Alex O'Brien pitched 1.1 innings of relief and gave up one hit and struck out two. Cash Forrester pitched 1/3 of an inning in relief and gave up four runs off two hits and walked two. Blaine Wood pitched 1.2 innings of relief and gave up two runs off one hit and walked two. Jimmy Watson pitched 1.0 inning of relief and gave up five runs off four hits, walked two and struck out two.

The Eagles host Lyon for a Saturday doubleheader to finish out their three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
