WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The Williams baseball team dropped both games of its doubleheader today against (RV) Columbia Cougars. They lost game one 17-10 in 10 innings and game two 14-3. With the losses the Eagles are now 15-11 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
In game one, the Eagles were facing a 10-2 deficit heading into their final three outs in the seventh inning, but Williams had a no-quit attitude and scored eight runs in the inning to tie it up and force extra innings. They eventually fell to the Cougars 17-10 in 10 innings. Nicholas Jones, Wyatt LeDure, Blake Simmons, and Palmer Campbell all had two RBIs in the game.
Ray Ochoa got the start on the mound and pitched 5.2 innings. He gave up nine runs off ten hits, walked two and struck out two. Garrison Keene pitched 1.1 innings of relief and gave up one run off three hits, walked one and struck out two. Blake Simmons pitched 2.2 innings of relief and gave up six runs off five hits, walked one and struck out three. Parker Jeffries pitched 0.1 inning of relief and gave up one run off one hit. Simmons got credited with the loss.
Game two wasn't very kind to the Eagles at the plate, but they scratched off three runs in the fifth inning. Noah Everett hit a 2 RBI single and came around to score after Dezmond Cordova reached on an error.
Spencer Burnham got the start on the mound and pitched 4.2 innings. He gave up six runs off four hits, walked two and struck out six. Alex O'Brien pitched 0.2 inning of relief and gave up three runs off two hits. Cash Forrester pitched 1.2 innings of relief and gave up five runs off three hits and walked one.
