Eagles Split Twinbill With Pioneers
PARAGOULD, Ark. - The Williams baseball team split Tuesday's doubleheader at Crowley's Ridge, dropping the first game 12-10 and winning the second game 17-10. With Tuesday's results, the Eagles are now 7-6 on the season.
Game One
The Eagles plated two runs in the top of the first off single by Wyatt LeDure. They added two more off a two-run bomb by Nick Allred over the left field wall in the third inning. The Pioneers got a run back in the home half of the third. The Eagles got their four run lead back in the fourth when Dezmond Cordova reached on a RBI fielder's choice. The Pioneers scored five runs in the fourth game and six runs in the fifth to take a seven run lead over the Eagles. Williams wouldn't go down without a fight, however. In the top of the sixth, Blake Simmons hit a RBI sac fly, Isaac Williams hit a RBI single to center, Allred hit a RBI sac fly, and Nicholas Jones hit a 2-run bomb over the left field wall to bring the Eagles to within two runs, but it wasn't enough.
Ray Ochoa got the start and pitched 2.0 innings, walking one and striking out six. Alex O'Brien pitched 1.0 inning of relief and gave up one run off two hits. Parker Jeffries pitched 1.0 inning of relief, giving up five runs off two hits, walking two and striking out one. Cole Manning pitched 0.1 inning of relief giving up four runs off no hits and walked one. Simmons pitched 0.2 inning of relief and gave up two runs off two hits, walking two and striking out one. Brady Sterns pitched 1.0 inning of relief, walked one and struck out one. Jeffries was credited with the loss.
Game Two
Again, the Eagles got going early with two runs in the top of the first as Jones hit a 2 RBI single. The Pioneers got a run back in the home half of the first. The Eagles added to their lead in the second when Simmons hit a 3 RBI single, Cordova hit a RBI single, Jones hit a RBI single, and Palmer Campbell hit a RBI double. Crowley's got a run back in the third off a solo homerun and four runs in the fourth. Williams added to their lead in the fifth as Jeffries was walked with the bases-loaded, Allred scored on a wild pitch, Noah Everett hit a RBI single, and Simmons hit a RBI single. The Pioneers would plate four in the fifth. Williams would round out the scoring after LeDure hit a solo shot in the top of the sixth.
Simmons finished with sxi RBIs in the game two to lead the team.
Spencer Burnham got the start and pitched 2.0 innings, giving up one run off one hit, walked two and struck out three. Blaine Wood pitched 1.0 inning of relief, giving up one run off three hits, walked one and struck out two. Cash Forrester pitched 0.1 inning of relief and gave up four runs off four hits and walked one. Simmons pitched 0.2 inning of relief and struck out one. Austin Tate pitched 0.1 inning of relief and gave up four runs off two hits and walked three. Eric Tolar pitched 0.2 inning of relief and walked two while striking out one. Caleb Suiter pitched 2.0 innings of relief and gave up one hit, walked one and struck out four. Suiter was credited with the win.
