Eagles Swept By Vikings To Open Season

 WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The Williams baseball team was swept by the Missouri Valley Vikings to open up their 2022 season. The Eagles dropped game one 8-6 in 10 innings, game two 8-7, game three 15-6, and game four 15-3.

Game One

Dezmond Cordova went 2-5 at the plate with one RBI. Nicholas Jones went 2-5 and had two RBIs. Wyatt LeDure went 1-4 with one RBI. Palmer Campbell went 1-3 with two RBIs. 

Spencer Burnham got the nod on the mound and pitched 4.0 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) off four hits, walked one and struck out three. Alex O'Brien pitched 2.1 innings of relief and allowed three runs (two earned) off four hits and struck out one. Ray Ochoa pitched 3.2 innings of relief and allowed two runs off three hits while striking out seven. Ochoa was credited with the loss. 

Game Two

Cordova went 3-4 at the plate. Jones went 1-3 with an RBI. Nick Allred went 2-3 with 3 RBIs. LeDure was 1-1 with a RBI. 

Brady Sterns got the start and pitched 5.2 innings, allowing six runs off four hits, walked two and struck out seven. Garrison Keene pitched 0.1 inning of relief, allowing two runs (one earned) off two hits. Keene was credited with the loss. 

Game Three

Isaac Williams went 2-3 at the plate. Sam Philley went 2-2 with a RBI. Jake Hutson went 1-3 with a RBI. Keene had one RBI, LeDure had one RBI, and Tyler Privett had 2 RBIs.

Caleb Suiter got the starat and pitched 2.0 innings, allowing four runs off four hits and walked one. Blaine Wood pitched 0.1 inning of relief, allowing four runs off four hits. Jimmy Watson pitched 0.2 inning of relief, allowing two runs off two hits. Austin Tate pitched 1.0 inning of relief, allowing four runs (three earned) off three hits, walked one and struck out one. Parker Jefferies pitched 3.0 innings of relief, allowing one run off one hit, and struck out three. Suiter was credited with the loss. 

Game Four

Cordova went 2-3 at the plate. LeDure went 1-3 with a RBI. Tyler Privett was credited with a RBI. 

Cash Forrester got the start and pitched 2.1 innings, allowing nine runs (eight earned) off five hits, walked five and struck out two. Blake Simmons pitched 2.0 innings of relief, allowing five runs (four earned) off four hits, walked one and struck out one. Eric Tolar pitched 2.2 innings of relief, allowing one run off three hits and struck out two. Forrester was credited with the loss.
