FULTON, Mo. - The Williams Baptist baseball team dropped their final conference doubleheader to William Woods, losing game one 11-6 and game two 5-4.
Game One
The Eagles took a quick lead in the first when Trent Pobst (SR/Scott City, MO) scored on Nick Allred (SO/Portageville, Mo.)'s RBI sac fly. The Owls responded with two runs in the first and second innings for a 4-1 lead. The Eagles came back with four runs in the third to take a 5-4 lead. Allred scored on Andrew Cooper (JR/Paragould, Ark.)'s RBI single to left. Jarron Brantley (FR/Jonesboro, AR) was walked and that loaded the bases for Chas Bell (FR/Southaven, Ms.) who hit a bases-clearing double to give the Eagles the lead. Unfortunately for the Eagles, the Owls scored six in the bottom half of the inning to retake the lead at 10-5. They added another run in the fourth to extend their lead to 11-5. The Eagles were able to score one more run when Bell scored on Brady Smith (SO/Cave City, Ark.)'s RBI double, but that was it.
Chase Hutson (JR/Paragould, Ark.) got the start on the mound and pitched 1.2 innings. He gave up four runs off four hits, and struck out one. Brady Sterns (FR/Paragould, AR) pitched 1.0 inning of relief and was credited with the loss. He gave up six runs off four hits and walked three. Eric Tolar (SO/Jonesboro, La.) pitched 2.1 innings of relief and gave up one run off one hit, walked three, and struck out one. Jimmy Watson (FR/White House, Tenn.) pitched 1.0 inning of relief and struck out one.
Game Two
Again, the Owls did some early scoring as they had a 4-0 lead after two innings. The Eagles plated one run in the third when Pobst scored off a wild pitch, and one run in the fourth when Jacob Brown (SR/Pinson, AL) scored off Smith's RBI double. The Eagles then tied it up in the top of the ninth when they scored two off Dezmond Cordova (FR/Little Rock, Ark.)'s RBI single. However, the Owls walked it off to take the series sweep over the Eagles.
Hunter Taylor (SO/Wynne, Ark.) got the start and pitched 6.0 innings. He gave up four runs off seven hits, and struck out three. Heath Taylor (JR/Wynne, Ark.) pitched 2.2 innings of relief and gave up one run off two hits, walked three, and struck out one.
