White Breaks/Ties School Records in Doubleheader Loss to Mustangs

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark.Brennan White (SR/Fredericktown, MO) broke the school record for career innings pitched with his seven innings in game one and tied the school record for strikeouts of 149 with his four strikeouts. The new record for innings pitched is 199.2. However, it wasn't the Eagles day on the diamond as they dropped the doubleheader against Central Baptist, losing game one 2-1 and game two 7-4.

Game One

The first game was a pitcher's duel as the Eagles only had three hits and the Mustangs only had four. The Eagles took the lead in the fourth when Nick Allred (SO/Portageville, Mo.) scored on Sam Philley (SO/Oak Grove, LA)'s sacrifice squeeze bunt. The Eagles had a chance to do some more damage in the fifth when they had the bases loaded with two outs, but couldn't push any runs across. The Mustangs took the lead in the sixth when Will Hodges hit a two-run homerun over the left field wall.

Brennan White pitched all 7.0 innings for the Eagles and gave up two runs off four hits and struck out four.

Game Two

The second game had a bit more offense than the first game. The Mustangs got it started with two run in the third. The Eagles responded with a run in the fourth and fifth innings to tie it up. They scored their run in the fourth off a Brady Smith (SO/Cave City, Ark.) RBI single to right, and in the fifth after Trent Pobst (SR/Scott City, MO) stole third and then stole home after an errant throw from the catcher. The Mustangs took the lead right back in the top of the sixth with one run, but the Eagles again responded in the home half to tie the game after they loaded the bases with no outs and LaDerrious Perry (JR/Little Rock, Ark.) hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Philley, but the Eagles couldn't do any more damage.

The Mustangs plated four in the top of the ninth to retake the lead, and the Eagles tried to rally, but could only get one across off Allred's RBI single to center.

Brady Sterns (FR/Paragould, AR) got the start on the mound and pitched 6.0 innings and gave up three runs off six hits, walked one and struck out two. Garrison Keene (JR/New Madrid, Mo.) pitched 2.0 innings in relief and gave up two runs off one hit, walked one and struck out one. Jacob Jumper (SR/Wynne, AR) pitched 1.0 inning of relief and gave up two runs off two hits, and walked one.
