Eagles Fall in Friday Doubleheader Against Spartans

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The Williams Baptist baseball team dropped its Friday doubleheader against the Missouri Baptist Spartans, losing game one 11-4 and game two 5-1.

Game One

The Spartans got going early with two home runs of two runs and three runs in the second inning and didn't relinquish the lead. They added three more runs in the fourth, but the Eagles were able to get one back in the bottom of the fourth off Brody Ninemire (SR/Viola, AR)'s solo shot. The Spartans would add three more in the sixth, and again the Eagles would get a run back in the bottom of the frame off Brady Smith (SO/Cave City, Ark.)'s RBI groundout. The Eagles tried to rally in the seventh as they scored two runs off an RBI groundout from Nick Allred (SO/Portageville, Mo.) and a RBI single from Ninemire, but that was all they got.

Ninemire led the team with 2 RBIs and went 2-4.

Kender Carroll (SO/Bentonville, AR) got the start and pitched 3.2 innings and gave up eight runs off five hits, walked four, and struck out six. Caiden McFadden (JR/Paragould, Ark.) pitched 2.1 innings of relief and gave up three runs off three hits and struck out two. Cash Forrester (FR/Newport, Ark.) pitched 1.0 inning of relief and struck out two.

Game Two

The second game was a much closer affair. The Spartans took the lead with one run in the second and one run in the fourth. The Eagles were able to scratch a run across in the bottom of the fourth off Jacob Brown (SR/Pinson, AL)'s RBI single. It was quiet from both teams until the top of the ninth when the Spartans plated three to increase their lead, and the Eagles weren't able to rally in the bottom of the ninth.

Ninemire went 3-4 to lead the team, while Brown had one RBI.

Hunter Taylor (SO/Wynne, Ark.) got the start and pitched 6.0 innings and gave up two runs off seven hits, walked two, and struck out two. Chase Hutson (JR/Paragould, Ark.) pitched 2.2 innings of relief and gave up three runs off three hits, walekd two and struck out one. Cash Forrester pitched 0.1 inning of relief.

The Eagles finish up their final home series tomorrow with a doubleheader against Missouri Baptist. They will also celebrate Senior Day tomorrow between games. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
