Game 2
Harris-Stowe State
WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The Williams Baptist baseball team got the Saturday sweep over the Harris-Stowe State Hornets, winning game one 12-4 and game two 3-2 in 12 innings. With the wins, the Eagles move to 7-7 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
Game One
The offense was hot for the Eagles in game one as they scored 12 runs off 10 hits. Brody Ninemire (SR/Viola, AR) got things started in the bottom of the first when he smashed a three-run homerun over the center-field fence. In the third, Palmer Campbell (SO/New Madrid, MO) hit a RBI double and then scored on a RBI single from Sam Philley (SO/Oak Grove, LA).
In the fourth inning, LaDerrious Perry (JR/Little Rock, Ark.) scored on Hayden Helvey (SR/Ironton, MO)'s RBI single. Helvey scored from third on an errant wild throw by the catcher. Andrew Radcliff (JR/Corning, Ark.) scored when he stole home, Philley scored on Will Biggs (JR/Campbell, Mo.)' single, and Trent Pobst (SR/Scott City, MO) smashed a three-run homerun to straight away center.
The Hornets tried to mount a rally in the fifth when they scored three runs and in the seventh when they scored one, but to no avail.
Pobst and Ninemire both went 1-3 with 3 RBIs to lead the team.
Kender Carroll (SO/Bentonville, AR) got the start on the mound and pitched 5.0 innings. He gave up three runs off four hits, walked four and struck out five. Alex O'Brien (FR/Marion, Ark.) pitched 2.0 innings in relief. He gave up one run off two hits, walked one and struck out three.
Game Two
The second game was a twelve-inning pitcher's duel. The Hornets broke the 0-0 deadlock with two runs in the seventh. The Eagles tied it up in the bottom of the ninth after Pobst doubled to lead off and Nick Allred (SO/Portageville, Mo.) hit a 2-run homerun over the left-field fence to tie the game. Ninemire would follow that with a double, but the Eagles were unable to walk it off as Campbell lined out to the shortstop to force extra innings.
The winning run came in the bottom of the 12th inning. Ninemire flew out to center to lead off, Campbell walked, then Philley singled. Campbell moved to third on the hit and Philley advanced to second on the throw. Brady Smith (SO/Cave City, Ark.) was intentionally walked to load the bases up with one out. Simmons was at the plate and the Hornet's pitcher threw a wild pitch that allowed Campbell to score from third base to end the game.
Allred was 4-5 with 2 RBIs to lead the team.
Jacob Jumper (SR/Wynne, AR) got the start on the mound and pitched 6.2 innings. He gave up two runs off eight hits, walked two and struck out three. Brady Sterns (FR/Paragould, AR) pitched 5.1 innings in relief. He gave up no runs off three hits, walked three and struck out five.
