Eagles Complete Series Sweep of Lynx

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The Williams Baptist baseball team completes the series sweep of the Lincoln College Lynx with 16-1 and 17-12 wins in the doubleheader on Saturday.

Game One

The Eagles got things going in the first inning when Trent Pobst (SR/Scott City, MO) and Hayden Helvey (SR/Ironton, MO) scored off an errant wild throw by the third baseman on Nick Allred (SO/Portageville, Mo.)'s hit. Then Allred came around to score off Sam Philley (SO/Oak Grove, LA)'s single to left. In the second inning, Blake Simmons (FR/Charleston, MO) scored off a RBI fielder's choice by Helvey, and then Palmer Campbell (SO/New Madrid, MO) scored off an Allred RBI single to center. In the third inning, Philley and Simmons scored off a RBI double by Pobst, then Pobst was able to score after an error by the third baseman on the play. In the fourth inning, Allred scored after Seth Gage (FR/Jonesboro, Ark.) was issued a bases-loaded walk.

In the fifth inning, Helvey scored on a RBI single from Jacob Brown (SR/Pinson, AL), then Coltin Weldon (FR/Mountain View, MO) hit an RBI single to score Jake Hutson (FR/Salem, AR) and Andrew Radcliff (JR/Corning, Ark.). Gage then tripled and Brown and Weldon scored. Then Gage scored on a RBI groundout from Simmons. Finally in the sixth inning, Helvey scored on a RBI single by Garrison Keene (JR/New Madrid, Mo.).

Allre, Gage, and Weldon led the team with 2 RBIs, with Allred going 2-3 in the game.

Kender Carroll (SO/Bentonville, AR) got the start on the mound for the Eagles and got the win after pitching 6.0 innings, giving up one run off four hits, walking one and striking out eleven.

Game Two

The Lynx would start the game by scoring four runs in the first, but the Eagles would respond with 11 of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Pobst hit a two-run homerun, Allred hit a RBI double, Allred would steal home to score a run, LaDerrious Perry (JR/Little Rock, Ark.) hit an RBI bunt single, Campbell hit an RBI sac fly, Helvey was issued a bases-loaded walk, Allred reached via an error that allowed a run to score, then Pobst and Helvey scored after an error by the the left fielder, and Allred would come around to score on Brody Ninemire (SR/Viola, AR)'s RBI single.

In the second inning, Campbell hit an RBI groundout to score Will Biggs (JR/Campbell, Mo.) and Simmons scored on a Pobst RBI single. Pobst scored on a passed ball by the Lynx catcher.

The Lynx would score five in the top of the third and one in the fourth to make it a game, but the Eagles would score three in the fourth to extend their lead. Biggs and Brantley scored on a wild throw from the third baseman, and Jacob Brown scored on a RBI groundout by Jake Hutson.

Lincoln would score two more runs in the top of the seventh but it wasn't enough to tie the game and force the Eagles to play the bottom half of the inning.

Brady Sterns (FR/Paragould, AR) got the start on the mound and pitchd 2.1 innings giving up nine runs off three hits, walking eight and striking out six. Cash Forrester (FR/Newport, Ark.) then came in in relief and pitched 0.2 innings giving up two hits and striking out one. Garrison Keene then came in and pitched 2.0 innings and got the win after giving up one run and walking one. Finally, Heath Taylor (JR/Wynne, Ark.) pitched 2.0 innings giving up two runs off two hits and walked one.
