Eagles Fall in Midweek Contest at Harding
SEARCY, Ark. - The Williams Baptist baseball team dropped their midweek contest at NCAA Division II opponent Harding University 13-6 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Bisons plated a run in the first inning to take an early lead, but the Eagles responded in the top of the second with four runs. Will Biggs (JR/Campbell, Mo.) had an RBI when he was walked with the bases loaded, then Blake Simmons (FR/Charleston, MO) was hit by a pitch to plate a second run, and the Trent Pobst (SR/Scott City, MO) hit a 2 RBI single to right field.
Harding would go on to plate one run in the third and seven runs in the fourth.
Williams would get one run back in the fifth inning when Sam Philley (SO/Oak Grove, LA) hit an RBI single to left field.
The Bisons would furthur pad their lead with a run in the sixth and seventh innings, and two runs in the eighth.
The Eagles would plate one more in the top of the ninth when Jake Hutson (FR/Salem, AR) hit an RBI ground to the shortstop to score Andrew Radcliff (JR/Corning, Ark.).
Philley led the Eagles going 2-4 from the plate, while Pobst and Brody Ninemire (SR/Viola, AR) when 1-3.
Williams used five pitchers in the contest. Hunter Taylor (SO/Wynne, Ark.) got the start and went 3.0 innings, giving up five runs off three hits, while walking two and striking out one. Garrison Keene (JR/New Madrid, Mo.) went 0.2 innings, giving up four runs off four hits, while walking two. Alex O'Brien (FR/Marion, Ark.) went 1.1 innings, giving up one hit. Heath Taylor (JR/Wynne, Ark.) went 2.0 innings, giving up two runs off four hits, while striking out one. Jimmy Watson (FR/White House, Tenn.) went 1.0 innings, giving up two runs off two hits, while walking one.
